Project Sheet No1 - Men’s Shirt & Tie Card
Step by Step Instructions

The following are free step by step instructions for you to print and use. These projects have a package available which will make 5 cards (either identical or similar designs) and include all the items you need to complete the project (excluding basics like tools and adhesives). We have also provided details of the items used in the project if you would like to buy them separately.

  1. Stick one of the A5 patterned papers to the front of the blank card (with the fold to the left) with a glue stick. Make sure that you put the glue all over and not just on the edges as you will be cutting out the card shape later.
  2. Place the main body of the template on the front of the card and draw around the outside and the pocket shape in pencil. Make sure that the template is placed with the left side against the fold.
  3. Cut round the edge of the card shape through both the front and back of the card. Do not cut out the pocket shape (this is just for placement of the pocket later).
  4. On the smallest piece of patterned paper (you can use the same pattern as the main body of the shirt or a mix and match with different one) draw around and cut out the neck of the shirt and the pocket.
  5. From the last (8” x 2”) patterned paper draw round the tie shape and cut it out.
  6. From the same piece of paper draw around the ‘knot’ part of the tie (round off at the bottom), then cut out.
  7. Use your ink pad or pen around the edge of the card shape and the other shapes you have cut out, simply drag it round at a slight angle to blend the edge of the card with the paper and to give a nice outline. You can skip this step if you wish.
  8. First stick on the neck of the shirt, I usually put this on flat with a glue stick, but you could raise it on foam pads if you like.
  9. Stick down the full tie shape with a glue stick (straight or at an angle as you wish), then mount the knot part on foam pads over the top of that part of the tie.
  10. Cut out the item(s) you want to put in the pocket of the shirt, then stick on using the pencil outline of the pocket as a guide so that the item will stick out of the top, stick on flat with a glue stick. If you don’t have the printed sheet you could use a peel off.
  11. Mount up the pocket on foam pads and stick over the pencil marks you drew earlier.
  12. That’s it! You can add peel off greetings or pictures from your collection to personalise the card as you wish.
